I enjoy doing these “tag” posts about once a month and I love Nintendo so this was a perfect match.
1. NES (Nintendo Entertainment System): A classic you want to read
There were a few contenders for this accolade. The winner is Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. Notable mentions go to Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night and Zamyatin’s We. All three are books waiting on my Kindle to be read in the next few months.
2. SNES (Super Nintendo): A sequel you liked more than the first (can be the second book in a series)
A trip down memory lane here but until Summer 2012 I didn’t really read. I remembered being 7-years-old at my grandad’s house and I reflected that he had and loved The Dark Tower books. This was my first foray into fantasy and where The Gunslinger was very average, I thought this was brilliant in every way.
3. Nintendo 64: A book that revolutionized the way you look at the world
Orwell’s classic 1984. This book with its hauntingly accurate view of the future, in my mind; will never be equaled.
4. Gamecube: A popular book that did not go over so well with you
The Name of the Wind was okay but very slow and the only thing I can remember standing out is a scene with a tree-eating Draccus. 500 pages into The Wise Mans Fear, nothing else has happened. It is nicely written but it is so dull and Kvothe chases that woman all the time. Where is this apparent legend the back of the book tells me about? Plus probably having to wait 7 years for book 3 isn’t great. I may come back to this but not anytime soon.
5. Wii: A new favorite book
6. Nintendo Power: Favorite graphic novel series or a series you want to start
I have started reading a fair few comics as I like chatting to the nice lady in my local comic book shop. As for graphic novels, The Dark Tower wins by default but is still pretty awesome. Dark expansions of Stephen King’s stories with amazing artwork.
7. Super Mario: A character that you’d love to squish like a Goomba
Kruppe from Malazan Book of the Fallen. Now, although he is slightly annoying and refers to himself in the 3rd person, this is more of a statement to certain elitist Malazan fans. Malazan is by far my favourite ever series but these idiot fans fabricate fake spoilers and such about this guy, e.g. he is a God and it all takes place in his head, he is every character, just bullshit that actually made me not enjoy the tales finale as much as I could have because I was waiting for the inevitable stupid Kruppe reveal. A good percentage of vocal and boisterous Malazan fans are despised in the fantasy scene and I completely understand why.
8. Zelda: A newer fantasy that you consider to be a modern classic
John Gwynne’s The Faithful and the Fallen.
9. Samus-Aran: Favorite sci-fi novel or one you want to read
I haven’t read as much science fiction as I would have liked but this book is awesome. I am currently reading and enjoying C.T. Phipp’s science fiction space opera Lucifer’s Star.
10. Pokemon: Book editions that you want to collect
The amazing Subterranean Press editions of Malazan but they are so rare, expensive and if you own one of them then you get the first request on future releases. They sell out insanely fast.
11. Donkey Kong: A book with original characters
Sorry for a lame answer here but most the books ever that aren’t a sequel or a series.
12. Nintendo Fandom: Favorite Nintendo game(s) or game
Two games that defined my youth.
Goldeneye 007 – N64
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – N64
Thanks for reading. I won’t tag anyone but if you fancy doing this then let me know and I will check out your post. Peace x
Might give this a try myself as it seems pretty fun

Probably Breath of the Wild but Ocarina of Time and Super Metroid would be very close behind

I can’t afford a switch/breath of the wild yet which as a Zelda lover, really hurts. Glad you liked it though mate.

I got mine on the Wii U as I refused to fork out that kind of money for new console and I still enjoy playing my Wii U :). Do you do much gaming now?

Not as much as I would like. I have always been a Nintendo kid but don’t have a Switch yet. I want a current gen Metroid, Star Fox and Eternal Darkness.

Awesome answers! So glad to see Gwynne and his The Faithful and the Fallen series on there!
Ha, Kruppe, I hated Kruppe to begin with, so annoying but then he grew on me.
Damn, Goldeneye and Zelda, amazing games, so many hours spent on them both, pure quality!

Have you voted for Wrath on the Gemmell Awards? I love that series so much.

Yeah, voted, my favourite fantasy series, gotta vote for it. 😉

Even Mark Lawrence wants Gwynne to win. He deserves it but I think Mark might win due to popularity

“Kruppe is wounded! Kruppe clutches his heart, hurt to the core. What is this, a tear? Oh, you villain, poor Kruppe was just trying to live his small life in peace.”
🙂
I’ve never gotten involved in reader fandoms, so I was able to skip any and all drama surrounding the Malazan books. Which sounds like a good thing from your reaction to it.
I too have Fletcher’s Ghosts of Tomorrow on tap. I hope it is as good as everyone makes it out to be.
And those SubPress covers. Oh yes, aren’t they awesome? I went to look on Ebay and they’re running from $2500 to $4000 for the first book. At those prices, I’m out of the game though…

Your Kruppe segment sounds like it could be right out of Gardens of the Moon. Elite Malazan fans hate anything ICE, spoil deaths like it is a hobby and hate everyone who hasn’t re-read the series 14 times, therefore, not noticing that snippet in Deadhouse Gates that related to some minor incident in The Bonehunters. Ghosts of Tomorrow is great, my rating is probably harsh for how good it is. Will look forward to your review mate x

Yeah, I guess I’m not a part of “that” fandom. I like ICE 🙂
It’ll be a bit before I get around to Ghosts of Tomorrow. But hopefully before the end of the year…

I aim to please, lol. But seriously, my pal and I spent at least 250 hours at the original 4 sonics and I reckon I can go faster through the zones than anyone x

It’s been so long since I played… I might have to get started again.

There was one zone in Sonic 2 where Knuckles could glide the whole way in under a minute and a half. x

This is probably the most awesome book-listing analogy I’ve ever seen. Given your taste in video games, I feel like I can trust your taste in books. High five.

Is it sad that in Ocarina of Time, if you showed me any screenshot, I could tell you where in the world they are set?
